Dr. Abid Ali Abid is a distinguished scholar and leading researcher in the field of plasma and space physics, currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Qilu Institute of Technology, Jinan, Shandong, China. He earned his Ph.D. in Space Plasma Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) under the prestigious CAS-TWAS Fellowship in May 2019. Following his doctoral studies, he continued his research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at USTC in Hefei (2019-2022) and later completed a second Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Technology, USTC (2022-2024).

Dr. Abid’s research focuses on the dynamics of waves, such as EMIC waves within Earth’s magnetosphere, and electron acoustic waves, as well as wave-particle interactions in space plasmas. His work employs advanced computational techniques, including Particle-in-Cell (PIC) simulations, and utilizes high-resolution data from NASA’s Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission. His expertise extends to electron phase-space holes, dust charging processes, complex (dusty) plasmas, electrostatic solitary (ES) structures and non-Maxwellian distribution functions.

A groundbreaking contribution of Dr. Abid is the development of the Abid-Zubair (AZ) distribution function, a universal non-Maxwellian model for space and laboratory plasmas. This innovative framework not only enhances the understanding of velocity distribution functions but also unifies and generalizes previous models, making it a transformative tool for analyzing plasma behavior in both simulations and experiments. His research has been validated through magnetospheric observations using MMS spacecraft data, demonstrating its significant potential in advancing plasma physics.

He has published 27 high-impact international journal articles (including Journal of Geophysical Research, Physics of Plasmas, Journal of Plasma Physics, Chaos, Solitons and Fractals, Scientific Reports, Results in Physics, Plasma Science and Technology, European Physical Journal Plus etc.,) with 17 as the first and corresponding author. Dr. Abid has established himself as a prolific researcher. He has also mentored master’s and Ph.D. students at the Institute of Advanced Technology, USTC, and supervised research projects at the Federal Urdu University of Science and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan. Beyond research, Dr. Abid brings nine years of teaching experience (2007-2016), having taught courses such as  Plasma Physics, Computational Physics, and Mathematical Methods in Physics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His extensive academic and research contributions reflect his deep commitment to advancing space physics and fostering the next generation of scientists.

Dr. Abid Ali Abid’s pioneering work, particularly the Abid-Zubair distribution function, positions him as a key figure in modern plasma physics, driving innovation and addressing critical challenges in the field.
